Modec to define shipyards to Buzios V

Oct 01, 2019

Modec will define, in the coming months, the shipyards from abroad and from Brazil that will work on the Buzios FPSO, which will operate for Petrobras in the Santos cluster in 2021.

The project should follow the company’s previous platform construction model, with hull conversion in Asia and part of module manufacturing and integration in Brazil.

The national portion most likely will be in charge of Brasfels, in Angra dos Reis (RJ) – hired to do the integration and assembly of the Sepia FPSO – and EBR, which will integrate the Mero unit.

Presently, the operator is working on detailing the engineering project of de Búzios V. Naval works should start between the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020.

Capable of producing 150,000 bopd and compressing 6 million m³ / d of natural gas, Búzios V will be installed in the northern part of the field, at 1,900 m of water, about 180 km from the coast. The unit may be interconnected to up to 15 wells. The charter contract is 21 years, renewable for the same period.

The Guanabara FPSO, which will be installed at Mero, is being converted in China at the DSIC shipyard. Carioca FPSO (Sepia) is undergoing conversion works at Cosco.

The first chartered platform of the Buzios field will be named by Petrobras as FPSO Almirante Barroso. The choice, according to the oil company, follows a new internal decision to honor “national, Brazilian heroes who have entered history thanks to their significant achievements in the country’s benefits.”
