Brazil will account for 35% of the new orders for FPSOs worldwide over the next five years, according to estimates by Modec, based on data from Energy Maritime Associates (EMA). The contract demand is estimated to be about US$ 17 billion.

According to the platform operator, total orders worldwide for FPSOs in the period will be US$ 47.8 billion. Africa (25%), Southeast Asia (13%), GOM (10%) and Northern Europe (9%) are the other areas with the most demand.

For the five-year period US$ 29.5 billion in orders for FLNGs are still expected, which, according to Modec, can also generate new business in Brazil, in addition to new charters by Petrobras and private oil companies.

Modec currently has eight FPSOs chartered to Petrobras: Cidade de Itaguaí, Cidade de Mangaratiba, Cidade de São Paulo and Cidade de Angra dos Reis – that operate in the Santos Basin pre-salt – and the Cidade de Santos, Cidade de Niterói, Cidade de Macaé and Cidade de Rio de Janeiro.
