Statoil has drilled a horizontal well, the longest in Brazil, the 7-PRG-49H-RJS, in Peregrino field, in the Campos Basin. The well is 8,080 m long in total, with 2,370 m vertical depth, and extends over an area of the new area of the reservoir that holds 35% of the reserves of the field. Drilling took 70 days and was performed with the use of water-based mud.

According to Statoil, well 7-PRG-49H-RJS had initial production 11,000 bopd, which confirmed the high production potential of the region. After drilling, the company revised its forecast of drilling activity in the area, with plans to drill 10 new wells in the region, instead of the seven envisaged previously. The goal is that all will be drilled using water-based mud.

Peregrino has a total of 35 completed and producing wells and, in January, produced 73,100 bopd and 11,600 m ³/day of gas. The field is operated by Statoil, which owns 60% of the concession, in partnership with Sinochem (40%). Production is carried out using two WHP’s and the FPSO Peregrino.
