Petrobras starts operation of Rota 2, the second largest gas pipeline in the pre-salt. The FPSO Cidade de Maricá, in the Lula field, in the Santos Basin also began production

Today (February 16), Petrobras started the operation of Rota 2, the second interconnector gas  pipeline for production from the pre-salt layer, with a capacity to carry 13 million m³/day to the Cabiúnas terminal in Macaé (Rio de Janeiro). The company said that it will also start production of the FPSO Cidade de Maricá, in the Lula field.

The Cidade de Maricá is a unit chartered for 20 years to a consortium led by SBM, and has a rated production capacity of 150,000 bopd and 6 million m³/day of gas, with a storage capacity for 1.6 million barrels of oil and the ability to inject 200,000 bpd of water. The Lula area is located in block BM-S-11, which is being developed by a consortium led by Petrobras (65%) the operator, with BG E&P Brasil (25%) and Petrogal Brasil SA (10%) as partners.

During event in Santos (São Paulo) for opening the pipeline and the inauguration of FPSO production, the President of Petrobras, Aldemir Bendine, highlighted the importance of maintaining investment in the core business of the company.

“Of course we will give priority to divestiture … but our focus remains on the pre-salt”
