PETROBRAS INITIATES BIDDING TO CONTRACT SUPPORT FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF THE BUZIOS 5 PROJECT

Sept 3, 2020

Today Petrobras starts receiving proposals from companies interested in providing support with contract management and inspection services for the Buzios 5 Project. What is being put on the table is a kind of “mother contract” or “backbone”, as they say in the market, encompassing all the administrative and technical support of the project. The competition will have national coverage, in closed dispute mode. The opening of the envelopes with the proposals is already scheduled for September 25th.

For the winning bidder, the list of activities to be carried out is quite extensive. Starting with the first block of tasks, contract management, the company will provide support to logistics, management of technical documentation, engineering diligence and support for construction and installation, among other actions. The bidder will also help Petrobras with expediting services for the project’s subsea system.

In the second block of services within the scope of the contract, which involves inspection support actions, there are quality inspection activities in Brazil and abroad, offshore construction inspection and onshore and offshore SMS auditing. The future contractor will monitor the manufacture of equipment and materials, inspect welding activities and issue reports. It will also be responsible for monitoring coating and non-destructive testing of pipelines and inspecting materials and equipment.

Petronotícia has heard from market sources that this is a very extensive contract and, probably, with very high added value. Besides, this is a project that is, by nature, very relevant – the fifth production system in Buzios, the Santos Basin mega field treated as the jewel in the Petrobras crown. As is known, the FPSO Buzios 5 is being developed by the Japanese group Modec and should start producing in 2022.

The platform vessel, called Almirante Barroso, will be able to process 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 6 million m³ / day of natural gas. Its minimum storage capacity will be 1.4 million barrels of crude oil. According to the last update made by Petrobras, in June, the platform already had about 36% of physical progress in its works.

The modules for the FPSO topside will be built in Brazil, at the Brasfels shipyard, in Angra dos Reis (RJ), with delivery scheduled for the fourth quarter of next year. When ready, the platform vessel will be connected to 15 wells – eight producers and seven injectors. The FPSO Almirante Barroso is being converted from the hull of the oil tanker Eddie, which was originally 332 meters long, 58 meters wide and 31 meters deep.

The announcement of the bid for the management of the Buzios 5 project was published this week in the Official Gazette of the Union. All the bidding documents (7003213203) are available on the Petronect website.
