In partnership with BP and Equinor, company prepares first production sharing well in the basin

In March, Petrobras plans to start drilling the first exploratory well in Dois Irmãos, in the Campos Basin pre-salt. The location of the well, in the area purchased in the 4th Round of Sharing, has already been defined by the oil company and approved by partners BP and Equinor.

Petrobras intended to use the drill ship West Tellus, from Seadrill, but an incompatibility of reconciling schedules could change the company’s plans.

The Dois Irmãos campaign will mark the first drilling in Campos Basin sharing blocks. Exploratory activity in deepwater assets underwent a long fast, imposed not only by the interruption of auctions but also by the industry’s fear of acquiring assets in the Campos Basin, in view of the threat of changes in tax rules in the state of Rio de Janeiro .

The market is expecting the result of the campaign, which is seen as a first indicator of the potential of these areas in Campos.

Petrobras leads the Dois Irmãos consortium with a 45% stake, together with BP, with 30%, and Equinor (25%).

Two other sharing areas in the Campos Basin were contracted at ANP auctions: Alto de Cabo Frio Central, in the 3rd round, and Southwest of Tartaruga Verde, in the 5th. The blocks are also under Petrobras’ operation, and the next to have a drilling campaign started must be Alto de Cabo Frio Central.
