Equinor made its first discovery in the area of Norte de Carcará, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin. The petroleum evidence was found by the West Saturn rig during the drilling of the 3-EQNR-1-SPS well, in a water depth of 2,052 thousand m.
The registration was made just over two months after the drilling of the well, the first of a non-Petrobras operator drilled in area under production sharing regime.
Norte de Carcará was sold off at the second pre-salt auction in October 2017. Its reservoirs extend to the BM-S-8 block – also operated by Equinor – where the Carcará prospect was discovered in 2012.
In July this year, the Norwegian oil company informed the ANP of the discovery of oil traces in the block, in well 1-STAT-10A-SPS, in a water depth of 1,990 m.
Ouro Preto, PGN and Rosneft
At the end of November, BE Petróleum published a report stating that Brazil had completed four months without new records of hydrocarbon evidence. After that, however, the agency updated the information on its page, adding new findings to the public database.
On October 18, Ouro Preto reported signs of natural gas in block PN-T-114, acquired in the 11th round of the ANP, in 2013. The fields are located in the Parnaíba Basin.
On November 9, it was PGN’s turn to record a gas discovery in block PN-T-102, which is in the same basin.
Less than two weeks later, Rosneft reported signs of natural gas in the SOL-T-170 block in the Solimões Basin in the state of Amazonas.
The discovery of Equinor in the North of Carcará was reported on November 26, according to the ANP.
