Ecopetrol is the first Latin American oil company to enter as a partner in the pre-salt

10/1/18

Colombian Ecopetrol was the first company in Latin America to join as a partner in an area in the Brazilian pre-salt. The company integrated with 20% the consortium that will have BP as operator (50%) and Chinese CNOOC with 30%.

“For Ecopetrol the importance [of this auction] is to enter the most important offshore province of the world. Ecopetrol has always wanted to increase its portfolio in Brazil, qualifying since the first pre-salt auction, with Libra, and in all others that followed. We are happy, “said João Clark, director of the company in Brazil.

The executive said the company will now have “a long way to learn and fight” and praised the partners.

Prior to Tita, Ecopetrol had three exploratory blocks at the equatorial margin. The result opened the company’s appetite. “We will continue to look at opportunities in Brazil. Ecopetrol is determined to grow in Brazil, “he said.
