Porto Açu carries out second transhipment operation with a VLLC and is expected to close the year with up to 60 million barrels of oil.
Galp carried out its second transhipment operation at the Açu Petróleo terminal in São João da Barra (RJ). The oil production at the Lula field in the Santos pre-salt occurred one month after the oil company made its first operation using a VLCC in the Port of Açu.
The transhipment operation involved a load of 2 million barrels. Officially the oil company does not reveal the destination of the oil, but sources involved in the process revealed that the shipment was destined for Asia.
The Açu Petroleum Terminal accumulates a total of 41 ship-to-ship (STS) operations already carried out, 20 of which are carried out throughout 2018. In terms of cargo volume, the operation totals about 41 million barrels, of which 20 million barrels in June.
The Açu Petróleo terminal serves Galp and Shell, which exports its production from the Campos and Santos basins. The Anglo-Dutch oil company has been using the facilities since 2015 and its contract is for 20 years. Petrogal started the first operations still in the test phase at the end of last year and already operates under the three-year contract.
The Açu Petroleum Terminal is expected to complete between 30 and 40 new oil transhipment operations by the end of the year for both oil companies, which will increase the cargo volume to the level of 50 to 60 million barrels.
The Açu terminal has the capacity to move 1.2 million barrels / day. Açu Petroleo analyzes the possibility of expanding the facilities, building an oil treatment unit, with storage tanks with a capacity of up to 10 million barrels.
